About Rooted Futures Initiative
Mission
We bring nature's healing power to the spaces and communites that need it most. Through thoughtfully designed plant installations, accessible education, and hands-on workshops, Rooted Futures Initiatives transforms schools, hospitals, and senior centers across Georgia into living environments that support mental health, learning, and well-being. We equip communities with the knowledge and skills to care for their installations and cultivate their own relationships with plants - ensuring access to both biophilic design and plant education is no longer reserved for well-resourced communities.
About Our Work
Why focus on schools, hospitals, and senior centers?
These are spaces where people experience stress, uncertainty, and the need for emotional support—and where the calming, healing presence of plants can make a real difference. They're also often in communities that lack access to green spaces and nature.
What's the evidence that plants actually help with mental health?
Extensive research shows that exposure to plants and nature reduces cortisol (stress hormone), lowers blood pressure, improves concentration, and enhances mood. Biophilic design has been shown to speed recovery times in hospitals and improve focus in schools.
How do you measure success?
We track:
- Number of installations completed
- People reached through workshops and education
- Community feedback and testimonials
- Plant survival and maintenance success rates
- Long-term partnerships and sustained engagement
We're building an impact measurement framework and will share results publicly.
What happens if plants don't survive?
We choose resilient plants and provide thorough care training, but we know life happens. That's why we include follow-up visits and plant replacements as part of our model. Our goal is sustainability, not perfection.
