Rooted Futures Initiative

Programs

We bring biophilic plant installations and plant-based education into under-resourced schools, hospitals, and senior centers—supporting mental health, healing, and everyday well-being through nature.

How We Create Healing Spaces

Rooted Futures Initiative's outreach programs operates at the intersection of biophilic design, mental health, and community education. Our work is rooted in research showing that exposure to plants reduces stress, improves cognitive function, and supports emotional well-being—benefits that should be accessible to everyone, not just those who can afford them.

Our Three-Part Approach

We design, teach, and sustain—so the space stays alive long-term.

Biophilic Plant Installations

We design and install living green spaces tailored to each community’s needs.

In Schools
  • Calm corners in classrooms where students can self-regulate during overwhelming moments Common area installations that improve air quality and create peaceful learning environments Hands-on plant care as part of student responsibility and science education
In Senior Centers
  • Therapeutic common area gardens that residents can tend together Low-maintenance installations in activity rooms and gathering spaces Sensory-rich plants that stimulate memory and conversation
In Hospitals
  • Calming waiting room installations that reduce patient and family stress Healing plants in recovery areas and staff break rooms Biophilic design elements that support well-being during difficult times
Each installation includes
  • Low-maintenance, air-purifying plants suited to the space Thoughtful design that considers lighting, accessibility, and daily use patterns Labeled plants with care instructions for easy maintenance

Education & Workshops

Plants only create lasting impact when communities know how to care for them.

On-Site Training
When we install, we teach. Staff, students, or residents learn basic plant care specific to their installation—watering schedules, light needs, common issues, and how to keep their green space thriving.
Hands-On Workshops
  • Plant Care 101: Watering, light, soil, and troubleshooting Propagation & Plant Parenting: Growing your own plants from cuttings Plants for Mental Health: Understanding the science behind biophilic wellness Creating Calm Corners at Home: Accessible green space design on any budget Seasonal Plant Care: Adjusting routines through the year
Youth Programming
In schools, we can develop student-led “Green Teams” who take ownership of their installations, learn responsibility, and become plant ambassadors for their peers.

Ongoing Support & Sustainability

We don’t install and disappear. Each partnership includes follow-up care and support so installations stay healthy and thriving.

Follow-Up Care Visits
  • Assess plant health and make adjustments as needed Refresh soil, trim plants, and provide replacements if necessary Answer questions and troubleshoot issues Reinforce care knowledge with staff or students
Long-Term Partnership
We build relationships, not transactions. Our goal is to empower communities to sustain their own green spaces over time—with us as an ongoing resource, not a one-time vendor.
